As a food writer, there are lots of opportunities to try new places and share the experiences on platforms like EatinAsian and on my youtube channel. I was recently invited to a Shabu Shabu media tasting and before I left the house someone asked me what shabu shabu was? Ahhhh, this was going to be the perfect opportunity to capture a tradition that not too many people are familiar with, especially if you aren’t in this foodie environment 24/7.
I sat down with Tokyo Shabu Shabu owner Darren Ooi to chat about his restaurant and experience a lot of different flavors from the menu. It’s about the broth, it’s about the meat, its about community. I love this Japanese tradition of cooking your own food at the table.
Tokyo Shabu Shabu offers over 8 different broths and there are so many meat options from beef to pork to lamb to chicken. Seafood and veggies are available too. These shabu shabu menus can get pretty overwhelming but I have you covered. All you have to do is watch the interview below and then go eat.
