Vietnamese MUST TRY Desserts

April 3, 2015 by Kimlai Yingling

I often find myself drawn to restaurants that serve authentic Vietnamese desserts. However, often times the dessert menu either doesn’t exist or consists of fried bananas or green tea ice cream.

I’ve been on a mission to find authentic Viet desserts that were so familiar to me growing up. My results, you either make them yourself or if you live in Los Angeles you head to the Garden Grove area or the Rosemead area. Both in opposite directions but both known for authentic Vietnamese cuisine with a heavy Vietnamese population.

I remember when I was little I would see my mom eating dessert drinks and I thought she was chasing fish eyeballs with her straw. Oy! Later I found out to my palates delight that they were sweetened basil seeds. Now I’m making my own Vietnamese desserts but I wanted to share a few of my favorites that I recommend trying next time you see them. If you love cooking then give the recipes a shot. Enjoy!
