This is one of the yummy recipes I learned to cook with my mama when I was little. I love the crunchiness of the fresh green beans and the salty-sweet flavor from the sauces. The oyster sauce and fish sauce tie everything together and give it that umami flavor. BTW you can pick up oyster and fish sauce at any Asian market.
This green bean stir fry is versatile. It pairs well with white rice, a big chunk of meat or on its own. You can add meat to the stir fry and make it a meal. Let’s cook!
Here are the ingredients
Cut the little straggly ends off the green beans
Flash boil the green beans for a few minutes. This brings the flavor out and also gives them a beautiful green color.
Take the green beans out of the boiling water and put them in an ice bath. Fill up a large bowl with ice and cold water, this will stop the cooking process with the green beans. Aren’t they pretty?
Roast up the garlic in olive oil and add your mushrooms. I’m using white button and crimini mushrooms. Love the earthy flavor of crimini mushrooms.
Add your flash boiled green beans.
Our masterpiece is coming together nicely.
Then add the Oyster sauce. Add a tablespoon first, taste it and if you need to add more then add another tablespoon.
Then you want to add some (ALOT) of fresh cracked pepper. If you are a pepper lover – go crazy.
Next up add some fish sauce. TIP ALERT!!!!! add fish sauce at the very end and turn the stove off. You want to make sure that you’re not cooking the fish sauce for a long period of time on your stove or else your entire house will smell like a bottle of fish sauce. Oy!! 😂
