It’s National Dessert Day!!!! Every where you look today on social you’re gonna have a million recipes at your fingertips. I love coming up with simple sweet treat ideas. I also don’t believe desserts should ever be denied, you should always at least have ONE BITE, which makes this size…PERFECT! I was having a little dinner party the other night and wanted to whip up something easy but tasty but not overwhelming.
I took a 6inch cake pan and made a few basic vanilla cakes. I used one cake and put the rest in the freezer. To avoid taking a trip to the grocery store I used what I could find in the pantry so I covered the vanilla cake in a buttercream frosting then topped it with some banana slices, chocolate sprinkles and thin lemon Oreos. If I would have kept digging in my drawers (he he he) the cake would have been topped with crushed graham crackers and mini marshmallows or vanilla glaze and coconut flakes or Triscuits and salty almonds. The great thing about having these little cakes made ahead of time is that you can take one out of the freezer a few hours before the party to thaw out and then take 5 minutes before the guests arrive to decorate with whatever you find in your baking pantry.
When you work with a small cake size it’s easier to decorate because there is less space to cover and actually you don’t even have to decorate the whole thing. You can pour a chocolate sauce over the cake and throw on some strawberries. It’s so small it’s already cute by default.
What’s on YOUR dessert plate today?
