I finally got to try Musso and Franks famous chicken pot pie. I’ve had tasty chicken pot pie before but OMFG this was AMAZING pot pie. The famous chicken pot pie is only available on Thursdays and when they run out it’s over, come back next week and it’s been like that for the past 98 years. Each pie has exact measurements for peas, potatoes, pearl onions, carrots and what literally feels and looks like a pound of chicken, especially if you manage to eat the entire pie in one setting.
The crust on top is flaky, it’s buttery, it melts in your mouth. I was so impressed how the red jackets took the top layer apart and plated the chicken pie on top of the oven baked crust. Very impressive! The art of using two spoons to serve is a skill :-). The place feels so old school, like if you got lost in thought and turned your head you might just see Charlie Chapman sitting in the first booth looking out the window keeping watch of his horse. The phone booth located in the back of the restaurant is the very first phone booth installed in Hollywood. Can you imagine the DNA on that handle? Dang!
This used to be the hangout for a ton of famous and not so famous writers since it was located across from the writers guild. Movie stars like Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe and also F. Scott Fitzgerald. Lots of movies were written in this Hollywood landmark.
There’s a ton more almost as famous menu items but today was all about the chicken pot pie. I was not disappointed.
