Mudtown, Watts. Twice a month the Mudtown Farms in Watts opens the doors to a variety of agencies and families in need. Food Forward plays a huge role by providing truckloads of producde that would normally be tossed out. This is produce that is in really good condition but not perfect so it gets tossed aside but it can definitely still be eaten. What an amazing opportunity to see first hand the graciousness of people giving and of the people receiving. On this particular trip we helped distribute over 20,000 lbs of delicious produce.
A little bit about Food Forward – Food Forward staff and volunteers rescue over 435,000 pounds of surplus produce each week from fruit trees, farmers markets and the Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market. 100% of these fresh fruits and vegetables are donated to over 1,800 hunger relief agencies across 8 counties in Southern California.
