[singlepic id=117 w=320 h=240 float=left]Have you ever gone out to eat, look at the food and think to yourself….I can make this!!! I took my girlfriend Lawren out for a birthday dinner and we ordered a flatbread appetizer. My brain instantly went to “OMG I can make this at home for a fraction of the cost”. Believe me if I could turn the frugality emotion off in my brain sometimes…I would!
The next day I started goggling pizza dough recipes. Flour, yeast, salt, oil & water. That’s it? Now I know there are professional chefs out there that have secret dough recipes but for the novice chef, this is a great starter dough. I thought I could get creative and infuse spices into the dough as well. Wasn’t really sure what spices to use but I was going for the anything with the color green.

I made the dough in less than 5 minutes. The only thing I didn’t have was a rolling pin so I relied on a can of beans to roll out my dough. Good option if you don’t have a rolling pin but I would recommend getting one. A 13-inch bakers rolling pin will do great for at home needs.
I formed my dough into a ball and then I took a chunk and made it as flat as I could. Rubbed some olive oil on top. Then I sprinkled my grated mozzarella cheese, added fresh cut tomatoes and sliced mushrooms and then topped it with more grated cheese. I preheated the oven to 350. Baked my concoction for 22 minutes.

It didn’t really look appealing in the oven and yes I did try and get a little creative and make pretzels. Those DID NOT turn out! I repeat…ABSOLUTELY DID NOT TURN OUT!

[singlepic id=116 w=250 h=190 float=left] [singlepic id=112 w=250 h=190 float=left] Making the flatbread was also a great opportunity to pull out my kitchen gadgets. I love kitchen gadgets and heart the people that come up with creative gadgets to make kitchen time more fun and simple. My Pampered Chef garlic press and my super duper salad shooter. If you don’t have a garlic press I highly recommend getting one. It minces garlic so fast and is simple to use and clean. The next gadget I recommend is the salad shooter. I grated a pound of cheese in less than 2 minutes. There are also other attachments to this gadget for slicing, dicing, etc., but for this recipe we are using the grater attachment. I’ve always been amazed at my super duper salad shooter. You put a block of cheese into the top, press the go button and watch it work.
The dough recipe was simple. I put the excess dough into a Tupperware container for later use.
