Chia and basil seeds are a superfood that is quickly climbing the food trend ladder with no signs of slowing down, and while they can be easily mistaken for the other, there are some distinct differences. Let me explain.
Chia seeds are native to central and southern Mexico and Guatemala while basil seeds are native to India and the Mediterranean regions. Chia seeds can be brown, black, or gray while basil seeds are distinctly black. Both are packed with vitamins, minerals, protein, antioxidants and fiber. And while basil seeds are known to have a cooling effect on the body, chia seeds regulate blood sugar. What both of these seeds share is the claimed ability to curb appetites, thus making them both deserving of their superfood namesake in our book.
Knowing how to consume either seed will help you get their full benefit. For starters, Basil expands much quicker than chia seeds after they are soaked in water making them a perfect addition to healthy beverages.
