LOVE Skewers

February 12, 2019 by Kimlai Yingling

These fruity Valentine day skewers are colorful, tasty (let’s not forget healthy) and fun to put together. I like to create goodies that are out of the box and these skewers will not disappoint. I’m using the fruit I purchased from Milk and Eggs but the options are unlimited so pick out 3 or 4 or your favorites or grab what’s in the fridge and let’s get on with creating tasty colorful skewers.

What’s fabulous about this DIY is that it’s a simple gift to give your friends, your co-workers and neighbors. If you’re having a Galentines dinner party it’s a great appetizer and if you have children it’s a fun project that they can put their personal charm into. AND it also makes a great Valentines gift for your other half. Step up the game by adding a bottle of champagne to the mix. Now that’s what I’m talking about. Fruit and Champagne! It’s a win-win for any occassion.

Here’s what you need to grab before we get started. Skewers, Hershey kisses, fruit and almond bark (melting chocolate). Make sure to cut your fruit up in bite-size chunks so they stay on the skewer.

  • Skewers
  • Hershey Kisses
  • Blueberries, pineapple & strawberries
  • Almond Bark aka melting chocolate

Now the fun begins. Put a few squares of almond bark into a bowl and melt in the microwave. You need to watch the bark closely so it doesn’t overheat and burn which makes it unusable. Microwave in 40-second increments and stir until the almond bark is completely melted. You also want to make sure all your fruit is as dry as possible. After I washed the strawberries I used a paper towel to get of the excess water and let them air dry a bit.

I also left the ends on the strawberries because it’s pretty and it gives you something to hold onto when you dip the strawberry into the chocolate. After covering with the melting chocolate lay the strawberries down on either wax or parchment paper so the chocolate can harden up. It should take about 30 minutes. While you’re waiting on the strawberries you can get the rest of the fruit ready.

Now it’s time to get the fruit on the skewer. I started with a strawberry on the bottom followed by blueberries, then pineapple then blueberries, another strawberry, then more blueberries and sealed the deal with a kiss.

The fruit skewers can be plated on a plate or upright. I grabbed a couple of champagne glasses and filled them with rice to hold the skewers up.

Fun right? I hope everyone has a delicious Valentines Day. Enjoy! xo
