It’s Rum Time | Rums of Puerto Rico

November 17, 2015 by Kimlai Yingling

The Viceroy in Santa Monica, CA was the perfect backdrop for the exclusive preview of “The Motion Picture” by Rums of Puerto Rico. It was also a rum infused playground for the week long American Film Market wrap party. Puerto Rico is universally considered the rum capital of the world with production beginning as far back as the 1600’s. Puerto Ricans are extremely proud of their heritage and culture and the economic growth rum has brought to their country. Marketing giants, Rums of Puerto Rico is responsible for increasing Puerto Rican rum exports and making Puerto Rican rums household names in the U.S.

While there was a lot of rum going around, one of the highlights of the night (mainly because it had a glow stick in it) was the “Golden Statue” which was a concoction of rum, coconut water and tangy starfruit. My favorite mix of the night was rum with pineapple juice. But I would have actually preferred something creamier like coconut milk which seems more of a traditional mix with PR rums. Wait on second thought, samples of coquito, indicative to Puerto Rico, would have been quite tasty since it was a chilly evening and the holidays are right around the corner. Cheers!

While the night was all about the rum the main feature was the unveiling of the 3rd installment of the “Rum Times” web series produced for History.com

The third installment of “Rum Times” called “The Motion Picture” follows the invention of the camera and it’s evolution towards cinema. It’s a must see!

The first and second webisodes have reached over 3 million people and was recently previewed by the Puerto Rico Film Commission as part of its participation in the American Film Market. To take it a step further, they want to make sure everyone can experience the delicious flavors of the Rums of Puerto Rico. And to satisfy your taste buds they have curated 18 unique rum cocktail recipes celebrating key events, inventions and achievements around the world. I think it’s time for a rum party.

Check out this Don Q cocktail video recipe. It’s themed to the invention of the light bulb and I can say first hand……..D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S
